About GSLFIA
The Greater St. Louis Flight Instructors Association promotes aviation safety and improvement of flight instruction by increasing education, instructor knowledge, professionalism, and techniques. This is accomplished through the exchange of ideas and techniques between instructors, developing effective communications and/or liaison with the FAA and/or other desirable aviation interested entities. We deliver ideas and techniques by sponsoring the Ed Blue Flight Instructor Scholarship, FAA Safety Clinics, FAA Wings Programs, an FAA approved Flight Instructors Revalidation Clinic and other Seminars.
Flight Instructor Scholarships
Our association has developed the Edward Blue Flight Instructor Scholarship for flight instructor members of GSLFIA to provide financial assistance in obtaining an advanced instructor rating. This scholarship provides training to qualified applicants who promote safety, knowledge, professionalism, and proficiency in their flight instruction. The scholarship is awarded to individuals selected by the GSLFIA Board of Directors or by a committee determined by the board. The award covers the flight instruction necessary to complete the rating by a GSLFIA flight instructor, checkride by a GSLFIA designee, and the aircraft rental fees up to a pre-determined amount.FAA Safety Clinics/Wings Programs
Throughout the year, GSLFIA sponsors several FAASTeam Safety Seminars on multiple aviation topics at locations around the Greater St. Louis Area. In partnering with the FAASTeam, we help promote involvement in the FAA Wings Program and encourage pilots and instructors to engage in continuing education and safety training. We believe this increases overall safety through increased awareness and proficency.
Flight Instructor Revalidation Clinic
Each year GSLFIA presents a "St. Louis Style" FIRC for those instructors needing to renew their Flight Instructor Certificate. This is a unique, "one-of-a-kind" clinic has been recently updated with a new syllabus mandated by the FAA to incorporate the latest information and a more interactive cirriculum. GLSFIA secures several local and national presenters for the FIRC, several modules of which are presented in conjunction with the Midwest Aviation Conference and Trade Show.
Midwest Aviation Conference & Trade Show
Every January, the GSLFIA presents the MACTS. In addition to a Super Safety Seminar featuring several celebrity presenters, the weekend includes an Aviation Trade Show where pilots can interface with local aviation organizations and companies.
Aviation Awards Banquet
On the Saturday night of the MACTS, GSLFIA hosts the annual Aviation Awards Banquet during which St. Louis' finest aviators, instructors and volunteers are honored by the community for their dedication to aviation, education and professionalism.
